Another femicide... She was stabbed to death and then burned. Ozgecan Aslan, a young woman who was a student at the university, only 20 years old…
The perpetrators of this barbarity, which cannot be described by any humane notion, have been identified. Yet, the arrest of the murderers does not and will not ease our conscience.
We have already started to read the statements of the ‘officials’ on the mainstream media… They are trying to criminalize the incidence and present it as a unique judicial case. We are sure that they are about to imply that it is the young woman who is to blame. Because she was ‘alone’ (!) ‘on the street’ (!) ‘at that time of the evening’ (!)… In their eyes, it is always the women who are to blame, women who live with their boyfriends, who go to university instead of getting married and settling down, and who make trouble at the universities.
The murder of Ozgecan is not a yellow-press news. It is the darkness of the AKP which stands behind it. We are aware of the misogyny of the AKP regime, we are well aware of the consequences of its hostility against women. We refuse the AKP reactionism, we refuse the culture nurtured by such reactionism, a culture which perceives women solely as ‘a piece of meat’. AKP represents the pervert morality of zealots who try to imprison women at home in order not to be seduced by their kneecaps.
We are well aware that the darkness deepens for women each time AKP argues that ‘women and men are not equal’, considers to allocate sex allowances for single men, preaches on where and how ‘fiancé couples’ should walk around. These only bring about violence, harassment, rape and death to women.
The AKP regime condemns women to live either with fear or hatred. The AKP regime defines women with their marriage certificates and the children they deliver. AKP is the protector of and responsible for the violence against women, the harassment, rape and murder of women.
Yesterday they found the dead body of Ozgecan. We will either add another one to the bulk of sorrows in our hearts or tear out this damned darkness.
We are women, with our labor and our body.
We are the ones who have the uttermost reason to bring down the AKP regime.
Ozgecan, our beautiful sister, we are going to make the AKP regime PAY OFF!
We extend our deepest condolences to Ozgecan’s family and all our sisters.
